Privacy Policy

Yap is a journal, and a journal is about as personal as data gets. This page explains what we collect, why and what happens to it. The short version: your entries exist so the app can show them back to you, we don't sell data and we don't use your journal for advertising.

What we collect

• Recordings and what's extracted from them. When you record, your speech is turned into text on your device - the audio itself is never sent to us or stored anywhere. The transcript is sent to our servers and turned into tasks, habits, a mood, a daily note and facts about people you mention. This content is stored in your account so the app can display it.
• Account information. You can use Yap without creating an account - we generate an anonymous identifier for your device. If you choose to sign in with Apple, we also store the name and email Apple shares with us.

How recordings are processed

Transcription happens on your device - the audio is never uploaded. Extraction is performed with the help of third-party AI providers: your transcripts are sent to them solely for this processing and are not used by us to train AI models. We pick providers whose terms prohibit training on customer data passed through their APIs.

What we don't do

• We don't sell your data to anyone.
• We don't show ads and don't share your journal with advertisers.
• We don't read your entries, except when you explicitly share something with us for support.

Deleting your data

You can delete individual entries in the app at any time. Deleting your account removes your transcripts and extracted content from our servers. You can also email us and we'll do it for you.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we'll say so in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top always reflects the latest revision.
